Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for programming and operating a CMM to make a final determination if parts are within acceptable tolerances. Utilize technical drawings and various other inspection equipment (micrometer, microscopes, comparators, calipers) as needed to provide feedback to toolmakers and other coworkers. Ensure adherence to tight tolerances and specifications while optimizing production efficiency.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  •  Program and operate the CMM (Zeiss) to measure and evaluate parts in final inspection.  Evaluate the results to determine if critical features are within acceptable tolerances. 
  • Interpret prints and renderings in order to understand the specifications for the part. Understanding GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) is essential in performing this function.
  • Communicate and collaborate with shop toolmakers to resolve quality and inspection issues.  Prior experience as a toolmaker would be beneficial in carrying out this function.
  • Work with the Quality Manager and Shop Supervisor in helping to create an atmosphere and culture that places quality at the forefront.
  • Other occasional responsibilities include but are not limited to polishing, grinding, and assembly.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency gains, and cost savings in design, fabrication, and maintenance procedures.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, regulatory standards, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Must have exceptional math skills.  Shop math tests are typically given prior to interviewing.

  • Must have good judgment and the ability to perform independent analysis.  
  • Must have attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be team oriented and have proficient communication skills.
 EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Advanced tool and die or machining certifications is desired.
  • 2 years or more of proven experience in quality inspection is required with an emphasis on CMM programming and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of print-reading and GD&T is required.
